Family Cycle Routes for Lockdown
Updated: Apr 20
With cycling becoming increasingly popular since 'Lockdown' we thought we would help people out by providing you with some family friendly cycling routes in the Corfe Mullen, Wimborne, Broadstone and Poole area.
In order to access and follow these routes you will need to download the app Strava. This is available on all types of phones and is very easy to use. You will need to make an account with your email and a password. Strava can be used for free or as a paid version known as Premium. You DO NOT need to pay for premium in order to access these routes.
The first route we have designed is specifically designed to be completely flat and perfect for families as requires very minimal riding on the road and if you are particularly concerned about this then you could cycle on the pavement, and the majority of the paths are wide making riding along side each other very easy. This route will take you from the Willet Arms Pub all the way to Whitecliff Park in Poole. This route is nearly 18 miles and we estimate will take you between 3 and 4 hours. We understand this may be too much for some and so the route has specifically been designed that it comes back the exact way you came so you only need to go as far as you want. There are numerous spots along the route to sit down and relax and enjoy the views.
The second route we have designed is for those who are slightly more experienced and are happy to ride up the occasional hill in return for awesome descents! This route does have some slightly rough terrain so a mountain bike is definitely needed. We hope you enjoy.
The next route we have designed is not designed to be ridden as a route on its own right but more to help you get from A to B as safely as possible or to help you get to the starting point of our other rides. This route enables you to get from Corfe Mullen to Wimborne by avoiding main roads with no cycle lanes as much as possible. Will take approximately 30-40 minutes. From Corfe Mullen to Wimborne it is mainly downhill so unfortunately on the way back it can be a little tiring!
We are are constantly searching for new routes and if you know of any then do please let us know as we would be delighted to try them for ourselves and share them with the community.
Also we would really appreciate if you could join our virtual cycling club on Strava, just search for 'Wheelie Bike Shop' or click this link https://www.strava.com/clubs/wheeliebikeshop
